#whyisign? I sign for three reasons. First: Deaf children have a right to get accessable services in their native language. Second: Speech is not a language, it's just a skill. The Deaf community has known this forever, but more audiologists and SLPs need to know this fact! Third: Many Deaf adults have shared their terrible scarring experiences growing up oral or with speech therapy. I want to change that narrative. I want Deaf children to know when they come work with me that I respect, cherish and value their language. I will always support their right to access ASL.
